Back in September, Samsung unveiled the consumer version of its Gear VR headset, and two weeks ago it went on pre-order. If you're interested in the device, you'll be happy to know that it is now available for purchase at several U.S. retailers, for just $99. However, you'll have to move quickly, as they are in pretty high demand.
If you haven't followed the news about the Gear VR, know that it's not the same as other VR headsets, such as the HTC Vive, or the Oculus Rift. Even though it uses Oculus technology, the Gear VR needs a smartphone in order to work (same as Google Cardboard, just a much more elegant and comfortable solution), and as you probably guessed, it has to be a Samsung phone, and you have to use specific apps to take advantage of it.
