If scuba diving or at the very least, snorkeling is your cup of tea, then chances are you would have also invested in a good quality waterproof camera (assuming you do have the necessary shutterbug skills to go along with your other wet, wet passion, of course) – either that, or a DSLR with an expensive underwater housing.
Well, Samsung intends to cater to those who are just starting out on this underwater photography thing with their latest release – the Samsung W200.
Of course, the Samsung W200 first and foremost is not a digital shooter but rather, one that captures video underwater. What you can’t do with the Samsung W200, however, would be to bring it along with you on your deep underwater forays, since anything more than 3 meters would turn it over to a candidate for the vast consumer electronics graveyard.
Of course, that does not mean it is a sissy by any means since it would be suitable to shoot great video of a relaxed day by the pool, or perhaps even up-close shots of coral reefs. The W200’s anti-water drop coating translates to the LCD display being free of condensation, even though you are in damp conditions, allowing you to continue with your amateur filming sessions without having to wipe the display.
The lens itself comes with anti-fog coating which allows steam to disperse so you always have clear, blur-free videos and pictures even if you decide to come straight after out of the pool. In order to shoot amazing underwater footage without looking too complicated, the W200 will also include an Aqua Mode setting, where it will automatically set the ideal parameters for the bright and clear underwater video.
Do not look down on it just because the W200 is slim and compact – it is a tough cookie on its own, being shock-proof and dust-proof, making it more or less the perfect candidate to bring on your next backpacking adventure. Heck, surely you don’t mind letting Junior have a go at this since it is robust enough to withstand some minor knocks and drops, and with a built-in USB arm, it is even easier to share your adventure at your next stop.
The Samsung W200 will be out later this May.

The mystery is over and Google has made a return to the branded phone war field. Google launched Samsung Nexus S and the phone comes equipped with latest version of Android operating system, Gingerbread. The phone, also dubbed as “Pure Google”, is capable of conducting searches and writing emails from voice commands. However, in the beginning, this feature will only be available in the US.
So, the new baby from Samsung stable features a 4-inch screen, big enough to blurry the divide between smartphones and tablets. One of the more striking features is the NFC or Near Field Communication capability of the phone. NFC will offer you contactless transfer of your data. The phone has a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor with 16GB of built-in flash memory. Its rear camera has a resolution of 5MP and the phone also has a frot-facing VGA camera.
The phone will be available via Best Buy Stores in the US. The unlocked and without contract handset has been priced at $529, whereas you will have shell out $199 with a contract. In the UK, Carphone Warehouse has already started accepting the orders for the phone, however it has not provided any definitive delivery date. Just be prepared to pony up more money than you would have to for iPhone 4. The phone is available for £550 sans contract whereas you can get it for free if you sign up a £35 per month contract. Best Buy UK is expected to start selling the phone on December 20th.
LG Electronics has scheduled to launch it's strategic smartphone "OPTIMUS ONE" overseas on October 18th. LG having debuted the gadget in Korea on Oct. 4, the company aims to sell over 10 million units around the world.
LG Optimus One will be utilizing Tegra 2's dual-core CPU and an Nvidia GPU
Nvidia says calls the GPU unit on its Tegra chips GeForce, but we're doubtful that they share anything with the PC parts other than branding. Still, Nvidia knows how to make graphics and we want to see Tegra 2 provide some tough competition for the Apple A4, Samsung Hummingbird, and hopefully give us a glimpse at the dual-core splendor that'll come with the Samsung Orion.
LG touts that the two speedy 1 GHz processors sharing the workload can provide up to 2x faster web browsing, 1080p video output and up to 5x faster gaming performance over single core processors running at 1 GHz.
“LG is committed to making its Optimus Series smart devices the de facto standard in speed and graphics performance,” said Chang Ma, Vice President of Marketing Strategy Team, LG Mobile Communications Company. “We selected Nvidia because it is the visual computing leader and has a long history of creating amazing consumer experiences.”
“The ultimate smartphones will be powered by Tegra, the world’s most advanced mobile processor,” said Phil Carmack, senior vice president of Nvidia’s mobile business. “LG is one of the most popular consumer brands, and their Optimus Series of devices with Tegra is further validation of the processor’s ability to deliver an unrivaled, turbocharged media experience.”
LG will launch through French mobile operator Orange in Austria, France, Romania and Switzerland.
And in North America it will be branded as the Vortex and marketed through the U.S.' largest mobile carrier Verizon. Then on Nov. 3 it will hit the market as the Optimus T through T-Mobile, and later in the month as the Optimus S through Sprint.
